EDUCATION

Welcome to our Education Pod!

Join us as we bring social and soil communities into the ecosystem and climate change conversation.

Unbeknownst to us, there is an active world buzzing beneath our feet. This world props up the world as we know it, enabling our ecosystems and food system and contributing to the air we breathe and the environment we live in.

Soil is a medium in which communities big and small grow and thrive. In our educational programs, we employ soil to understand concepts as well as confront larger questions.

It is through the education pod that we are working towards building a greater and deeper understanding of soil and its inextricable connections to our communities.

Our approach to learning incorporates the following:

  • Inquiry-based learning

  • Critical analysis

  • Engaging activities that are self-reflective - explore our position as humans in larger systems and processes

We do this in the form of …

COURSES

Our current courses are designed to bring social and soil communities into the ecosystem and climate change conversation. We focus on a holistic approach in understanding soil and emphasise linking this knowledge to our local context through our lived experiences working on the ground here in Singapore.

If you are interested in any of our courses and are willing to help us design and structure them to suit your needs, please take some time to help us with this interest form! Your valuable feedback as a potential attendee will help us to fine-tune and plan for this course, to suit your needs better and support your ability to participate in this course.

 01. SOIL, ME & THE PLANET

An introductory course that gives an overview of all the content that we cover in the rest of our courses. You will get to know about the soil food web, carbon, soil structure, what makes healthy soil and so much more.

This is perfect for you if you are new to soil, or if you are looking to have a taste of what we offer before you commit to the longer courses that we have.

02. LIVING SOIL

3 Lessons

An in-depth course for us to discover the amazing web of life that exists above and beneath our feet. Over three lessons, we will put our biological lenses on as we learn about:

  • The different micro and macro organisms in our soil food web, soil structure and nature’s operating system.

This course is a wonderful blend of science and hands-on experiences, perfect for those who wish to learn how nature adds up and works seamlessly together to make healthy soil and resilient plants.

03. CIRCULAR SYSTEMS

3 Lessons

Everything is connected in nature and living soil is interwoven with many other natural systems in more ways than we know. From forests and plants to carbon and our water cycle, these systems are deeply integrated with soil and each other. Over the span of these 3 sessions, we will:

  • Get to have a broader (and possibly mind-blowing) understanding and appreciation of these circular systems and the growing importance of having healthy soil in our world today.

04. REIMAGINING OUR SOIL STORY

3 Lessons

We have been told that Singapore has limited land and that our food future depends on agritech and not soil. What happens if we collectively embrace soil regeneration and adopt practices to heal and nourish our soils? How does this, in turn, help us take care of ourselves and our communities?

In these 3 sessions, we will explore:

  • How we can revitalise Singapore’s soils, food system and communities through our everyday choices and actions.

The course includes a visit to a local regenerative farm/garden where we will learn how soil regeneration has taken shape here in Singapore and what opportunities are open to those interested in being a part of this unfolding journey.

Join us as we reimagine Singapore’s soil story and our food futures!
